Well, before joining this community, I had been reading other postings and lurking on the sidelines for quite a while. Months, actually. Due to my own issues, I was encouraged to create an account!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm not necessarily 'new' to chickens, as I had to take care of some in both vet assisting class and agriculture when I was younger. However, this is my first time raising my own and I love them to pieces.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have a flock of 6 at the moment. There are 5 pullets and 1 cockerel, all approximately 4 1/2 months.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I have 1 Buff Orpington, 1 RIR, 1 Buff Silkie, and 3 EE's.
The Buff Silkie is a cockerel and he adores his ladies!

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Just by looking up my own concerns, I had come across the lovely site several months ago. It is very useful and informative.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I draw in my spare time, and I also like to write and design.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm an 18 year old student in hopes of earning my CNA within the upcoming year. I have 5 siblings, all much older than I, and I have 3 dogs, 4 cats, a squirrel, and of course - my 6 chickens.
One of my chickens (Buff Orpington) is a therapy animal and is currently readying herself to visit my mom's work residence (VA hospital) to visit the patients there. The idea got approved, and they are even acquiring 2 chickens of their own!

It is a pleasure to meet all of you and I hope that down the road I can offer my own advice and experiences with this community.

Thank you all so so much! c:
I can't wait to share pictures of my flock!!!

And yes, yes she's a therapy chicken. She actually helped me drop my medications for depression, anxiety, etc. and I stopped going to therapy and psychiatric appointments! She's helped me so much in the short time she's been here, and I adore her more than most things.
