Sorry, still shaking it off a little. I'm on my way in to work this morning, and I come around a bend, on the backroads not more than a half mile from my house, and come on a 1980 something hatchback blocking half the road after it hit a light pole. The drive lights still on. I threw on my flashers and got out, checked things out, looking for the driver. I can see that the driver’s side window is down, the windshield has been hit, probably by this person’s melon… But no person. I even looked in the back in case they ricocheted back there. Nothing. Walked back to my car, called 911 and reported it. They asked me to stay, even though I really have no information. So, I called DH to tell him to go a different way from the house, and then a guy from work to tell them I’m gonna be late (I got here at 0620 instead of 0600). Two cars drive by me while I wait, nobody stopped. Finally the cop shows up, we get out… He calls in the plate, asked me if I saw it happen, if I passed anybody walking (which I didn’t.) Then he let me go.
Happy Thursday. Dang way to start it. Glad there wasn’t anybody in the car, honestly. I didn’t want to have to juggle my phone (911) and struggle to remember EMT skills from over 20 years ago.
I know this isn't that tramatic, since there wasn't anybody in the car, and they were long gone since the engine was cold... but it made me start thinking about what I would have done if the driver WAS still in the car. Made me think about the one other accident I came on and helped with until the authorities arrived.
