so what's wrong with feeding wild bird Sunflower Seeds?

ok, I guess the wild bird seeds are ok then

yeah - I would like to know, too, why they are skinny, but no luck so far, even at vet's and trying to see what parasite is bothering them - have been treating with several ideas - thought I would also attack the problem by providing optimal support, feed being one, but did not want to introduce something that can hurt them, especially now, so hence the question about the seeds under the feed topic

hi lazy gardener - no I haven't - sounds good but I am afraid to grow mold or other toxic stuff by not doing it right, at the wrong temperature, or keeping it too long???

our Guineas would need a very long time to warm up to it anyway

I tried a "bird mesh" before but it was just boiled quinoa and sweet potato and cinnamon and other stuff...

how do you do yours?

I do about equal parts crumble & water, mix it up, and let it sit a couple days to ferment. Actually, I don't let a new batch sit, I'll feed it as a mash until it starts fermenting. I've done it with layer pellets, now I'm feeding an all flock feed and using that. My girls get about 8-10 scoops a day, and have free access to dry crumble at all times also.

There is a FAQ article about FF in my signature. You can paste that into a search bar. It will tell you everything you need to get started: the how and why of FF. IMO there is less risk of FF spoiling than there is with dry feed that is fed out and then absorbs moisture from the humidity. The FF is inoculated with beneficial organisms, while your dry feed may end up picking up a lot of mold spores.
