So who is guilty of actually catching their chickens and trying to look at the color of their earlobes? I'm about to go out and give it a try. Was curious to see what a chicken earlobe looks like.

Heck, you don't have to catch 'em, just look at 'em from a few feet away.

FYI - you only see the earlobes when the chickens are fully feathered and mostly grown up. Oh, well, and afterwards.... they're just not visible much on youngsters.

Guilty as charged. But mainly just with my EE's whose earlobes are a complete mystery to me. They don't seem to have the prominent lobes of my other girls.

I can't see the earlobes on my Ameracuna's either. They have feather fluff all around their ears, so I'll have to pick one up and get close and personal to see. It is pretty funny tho - looking at a chicken's earlobes - you won't believe how many poultry how-to books tell you to do that. LOL! One more amusing thing after another with chickens...

Ok. All 3 "big" chickens (my bantams) should lay brown eggs? They've got red or brown earlobes...
