Soap Makers Help!

I got my order from soapcrafters and they included a peach sample.... not very much but it smells nice....

The rose and blossom oil that I ordered leaked and now I have rose smelling hands even after several washings and a shower....

I hope that is a good sign it will be good in the soap!!!

I would contact them and let them know it leaked. If it was I lot I would ask for replacement. I have never had a leak in any of the fragrances I recieved from Bramble Berry, Camden Grey, or Wholesale supplies plus. Those FO aren't cheap.

Thanks all for the "Beach" ideas! If this goes through, it'll be fun!

breconbcs - I've used a floral water that I made myself. I took a bunch of rose petals and distilled them into a rosewater and used that as the liquid of my soap that also had a rose scent. I agree with Morgaine, I think it's really more about label appeal than what it adds to the soap. I suppose there could be some astringent qualities added by some waters, but you'd have to compare that side by side with a similar recipe to know for sure.

Morgaine - I got a sample of the Marrakesh as well!! I keep picking up the sample bottle to sniff it. It's THAT good! You know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of the smell of a sweet pipe tobacco when it's fresh out of the bag. The Brambleberry website says it's a bit of a bugger to soap with because of the clove oil. I've seen soaps on the Net with that fragrance, so I know it can be done. If you give it a try, let me know how you dealt with it. Is that why you're going for a lotion bar rather than a soap? If I can make it work with my sample batch, I may just order some if the guys like how it comes out.

ametauss - Are you going to make "Peaches and Cream" with that sample?

I was going to make a lotion bar with it cause I didn't think it was enough for a pound of soap, hadn't read how it soaped, lol. I'm also going to add some to almond oil and use it as a perfume. It is a very exotic scent I think. And I agree with you, there is definitely a smell of tobacco, in a good way, not at all like cigarettes.

I know a lot of people use them on their skin, like a spritz. I wouldn't waste them in soap, because they're so expensive, and you're unlikely to see any benefits in the finished product. If you want to include it on your label, just drop a splash in at trace!

Yes, tobacco in a good way - like a very yummy smelling pipe tobacco. (aside - hubby smokes a pipe every once in a blue moon. I love the smell of the tobacco UNTIL he's smoked it. Then he'd better shower and use mouthwash or he has to sleep in the other room!

I agree - very exotic scent. Let me know how the perfume goes. I can't stop smelling it. Must-go-sniff-now.

I decided to pass on the florals and ordered more FO and EOs instead with that money.

I also ordered more olive, coconut, and this time added in palm, rice bran and shea butter. I fought with myself over ordering the shea or getting mowrah butter but shea was cheaper. But I can't wait till next week when they come in (I already have colours from doing the m&p that I want to play with) so I went to the bulk store and bought some more coconut oil. Today was grocery day so I was out shopping and decided to double check what oils were on the shelves. Today I found grapeseed and avocado oil! Two weeks ago when I started looking and putting supplies together they weren't there. I know how I'm spending my afternoon! nowoff to go play with SoapCalc and see what I can come up with...

I added a few drops of Marrakesh to some almond oil and dabbed that on and I smell so good, lol. The vanilla beans and sandelwood are coming through more than when you first sniff out of the bottle. I love this scent! I measured what they gave me and it was over half an ounce!

Here are some recipes from teach soap(scroll down) for solid lotions and solid perfumes.

Ok, while I was typing this, UPS came and delivered my stuff!

The EO from essential oil university are in the coolest containers ever! Although I'm not sure how to open them

Scents Works scent reviews OOB(out of bottle)
Black Raspberry cream: Very fruity, but not sickly sweet. Just enough tartness to even it out. Like it

Yuzu Japanesse Grapefruit: Lighter than I thought, and sweeter too. But really really good. I have a feeling this will really bloom once soaped.

Coconut Lime Verbena: I would like a little more coconut, but it smells just like BBW's.

Green Irish tweed: I tried this one because it has so many good reviews. It's definately a perfumey scent, clean and green. Not sweet, but a little floral in there. I can see where this one would do very well in a soap. I think of something soapy and clean when I smell it.

I got two tiny vials as freebies. Not much you could do with them, unlike the BB ones. I got white willow and green tea and wheatberry and cream.

White willow and green tea- flowery and white, slight citrus. Ok but wouldn't order.

Wheatberry and Cream: I don't like. It is very perfumey, cloying and old ladyish.
