Soap Makers Help!

Need some help if yall don't mind. I have a recipe and need to see what lye amount you woul use
15 oz sweet almond oil
10 oz castor oil
30 oz evoo
25 oz palm
20 oz lard
which lye amount would you use? MMS green section 5=13.05, 6=12.92, 7=12.78, and 8=12.64
I am using buttermilk and I was thinking about going with 7=12.78

I plugged it into soap calc and your amount of lye is fine.

ETA: with milk soaps, I usually go with a 5-6% superfat than my normal 8%. I had a huge oil slick one time when I did 8% SF with a milk soap, I dump it down to 5% and have not had a single problem.

I really like buttermilk in soap.

It should be, though your recipe is a little on the soft side. Are you going to use all buttermilk? I would use 20 oz of liquids. That'll help it get harder a little fast and since you don't have any fast tracing oils you should be fine. You only use eo and at small amount if I remember right. As long as it's not a spice eo, it's fine.

If you are not using all buttermilk, I would mix 13 oz water with 12.78 oz lye and then once it is completly cooled (below 100) I would add 7 oz buttermilk to the lye and if you have it, a few tablespoons of buttermilk powder at trace.

This sucks. I can't work the festival without insurance and our home owners insurance doesn't want to cover my home based business. I don't think the lady even bothered to find out if they could or couldn't cover it. I think it was one of those not wanting to put any time into it thing. And a misunderstanding aout soap making. I HAVE to get insurance and quick so I can send in my money and secure my space.

I add egg yolks to my buttermilk and grits and a little jar of baby food carrots. The lather on those bars is fantastic. I had to add scent though (lavender, rosemary, orange eo's) because no one wanted unscented bars at my market

MORGAINE...baby food carrots....very interesting...I might try the baby food in a test batch bar.
