For some reason I figured I could have the tallow rendered & ready for use with just an evening's work. But finally today, the final washed tallow is setting up in the fridge. Being the first time ever making soap ( I've never even done m & p.... or even candles.... but I've done chocolates.... used to sell them, in fact, till my son was born. lol.... #5 will do that to you, sorta slows you down....:-D) I want to make sure it's right. Especially since my husband just sort of shook his head & said "ohhh man, mom's off on another tangent!" But I am fairly well certain that if I can get the first batch right, and he likes it, he could be hooked as well. Afterall, he DID end up helping with the dollhouse, he DOES now really ENJOY homeschooling, and he actually DOES love those silly chickens out back......lol....

So on with the soap making!!

Also ~ I want to be part of the soap swap!! But I want to make sure that my soap turns out nicely first, before I dare trade with anyone. If it's scheduled for after the holidays, I should have maannyy soap batches under my belt, & cured.

Notes: This soap has a high percentage of cinnamon oil, which stimulates & lifts the beard, for a close shave. This soap is difficult to make for several reasons ~ it thickens quite quickly, the cinnamon will streak the soap if you don't move quickly, & the oil must be dribbled in quickly while stirring quickly. You must be ready to pour immediately!

Please note that I have not made this soap, so I don't personally know what it's like. But you did ask for a shaving soap recipe, so I thought I'd share one that I had found. :-D

Oh gee Redhead. I better not let my hubby read your post. He might think I have a twin out there somewhere! Yesterday, I managed to do 6 loads of laundry, clean the shower, clean the bathroom floors, sweep and mop the floors, make a cooked breakfast and supper, cut one batch of soap and make another. I did all of this while helping both kids with homework, tending to chickens, and even finding time to sit down and watch Meet the Press, read here at BYC, do some genealogy, and watch a video!

But, even I am not brave enough to render the tallow so you win!

I use castor oil for creamy lather.

Here is my layered glycerin and cp bar. I used frankincense and myrrh for the cp and holiday spirit Sweet Cakes fragrance oil in the glycerin. I also...used olive, canola, coconut, palm, apricot kernel oil, and 8 tbsp of beeswax in this soap. Also a goatsmilk that I prevented the gel on the white cp side. I do plan on beveling this bar when it is finished curing. It is seeping since I used canola oil...which is common with Olive an Canola during cure time because of the high linolic (sp?) acid content. It turned out pretty nice....but I would have desired a deeper red. Oh well...I can always soap again. I'm out of palm oil though! Shipment should be here by next week.

I had a bit of seeping with the batch I made yesterday. It had drops of oil on the surface when I went to cut it. But, now that it's cut, it doesn't seem to be doing that any more. Is it OK?

I didn't end up making the rosemary lavender soap today. I had to run an errand instead. I found the Rooto 100% Lye crystals at a hardware store!

I drove right on over there and cleared off their shelf! While the per/pound price was more than ordering online, it will cost about $2 a batch less overall! Wooo hoooo!
