Soap Makers Help!

I'm so glad you asked that question! I just threw out last yrs frozen beets that looked freezer burned. I was wondering about red color as well. With the holidays coming I'm in red and green mode. What do you think about candle dyes for soap?

Candle dyes usually will stain very badly. I also don't know if they are skin safe and how stable they are in CP.

You can find a lot of natural colorants at your health food store.

Thank you for posting this!!! What do you use as a mold on this since it gets hot? I can either use a 3" PVC or a wooden drawer or plastic.....I even have silicone molds.

I used some linerless molds I bought on ebay. They're made of thick, hard plastic-like material. I would not insulate it at all. All of my milk batches have gotten very hot, but this one actually rose up in the middle and cracked a bit. That was with just the thin wooden top over the mold.

I just cut a batch that I used the same recipe and threw in some holiday FO and some trimmings from my pumpkin bar and lemon balm/bee balm. It looks like it has twigs and branches in it and it smells a lot like pine....

So far I have not used goats milk in any soap & don't really have a place to get goats milk so it may be a while before I get to try it.

None of my molds are thick ect the PVC pipe so I will use one of the others.

check out the organic section of your grocery store. Maybe they have canned goats milk. Or go to backyardherds.com and find a goat owner near you. Most of us like to share:)

That is a very good ideal !!! I may have to do that!!

I have a question & I'm sure the answer is here somewhere but can't put my curser on it.

Does Oxide colors heat up the mixture at all?? Do I have to worry about any bleeding? I have brick red & a Green Chrome (oxide) Pigment, has anyone used those colors & how they color in CP.

There is usually powdered GM too. And if you use the canned condensed GM remember that it is concentrated and don't use it as full milk. Ask me how I know

I have used oxides and as long as you don't over use the pigment, it should not bleed or stain. It only takes a tiny bit get a lot of color. I use 1 tsp of Chromium Green in 15 pounds of oil oil to color the whole batch, 1/4tsp if I am swirling. I have never had a batch over heat that had them in it. And I don't find that they thicken up like clays do. So you shouldn't have any problems using them. I much prefer to use powdered pigments than I do liquid ones. I just never got the hang of how much liquid to use to get the right color because you don't know till it gells what it is going to look like, but with pigments (and most micas) you know that the color in the raw soap is going to be very close to what you get after gel.
