Soap Makers Help!

Quote:
I cut Q=tips in half and put a drop of EO or FO on each and allow to dry on wax paper. I store each fragrance in its own ziplock baggie.
When I want to test a fragrance, I mix by adding the scented Q-tips to a new ziplock bag and record the number of each fragrance. I can tweak the fragrance to suit me.

Example: If I used 3 Q-tips of Patchouli, 2 of Lavendar and 2 of Lemon citrus

For a small recipe of soap I would use 1/2 tsp measures: 1 1/2 tsp Patchouli, 1 tsp Lavendar and 1 tsp Lemon citrus

For a larger recipe: tablespoons or ounces.

If you want to count drops....125 drops = 1 teaspoon

This is from a conversion chart I keep on my fridge:

1/4 c = 2 oz = 4 Tbs = 12 tsp = 59 ml

1/8 c = 1 oz = 2 Tbs = 6 tsp = 30 ml

1/16 c = .5 oz = 1 Tbs = 3 tsp = 15 ml

Thank you so much NanaKat!! What a wonderful idea. I will try this!! I have so far only mixed a citrus one with Lemmon Grass & Orange.

Hello fellow soapers!! I have a question I don't think I have seen addressed. Maybe a kinda weird question, but when you all use your soap, does the scent stay on your skin? I have been using mine, OMH, Raspberry Vanilla, and lavender/peppermint, and the soap smells great, but I can't detect any of the scent on my skin. Am I not using enough scent, or is there something I need to add to make it "adhere" to the skin? Maybe it is just me. I would like to be able to smell the scent a little bit after I use it. Any thoughts?
This site has been fairly quiet this summer! Everyone out enjoying the great weather, even though it is so hot!! I'm tryin to enjoy it, and not think about winter!!

Are many of you making much soap? I haven't made any for about 6 wks. I don't have central air and it has been ssooo hot here, I haven't tried. Waiting for a little cooler weather and hope I can get the ball rolling! I have many scents I want to try!! Haven't tried the colorants yet. I want to perfect my recipes before I add them.
BYW, can anyone tell me if their is a way I can copy NanaKat's post on the conversion chart? Great item to have on hand! THank you Nanakat! I haven't experimented with too many scents yet, but I have put mine on cotton balls, and similiar to your process Nanakat, I put them in ziplock bags and mix them around. I let them set for a few days to mingle. Not my idea! Got it form this thread!

I made three batches of soap last week. Along with liquid laundry soap. Everything turned out good.

As for smelling the soap on yourself after a shower. I can't smell it on myself but my DH can smell it on me & others that hug me. Could that be happening to you? I wouldn't want it to powerful after all it isn't perfume.

When I want to copy something, I high light the passage and then I right click it. Then from that menu I hit copy.
Then I go to my email account and make a draft message and then I right click in the message board and "paste the copied material. I then send the email to myself...long way around but it works. If you right click and hit print, you get loads of pages of the thread instead of the isolated portion.
Better yet, PM me your email address and I'll send it to you.

I was able to copy paste into a PM to you.

Recently I ran across an online salt bar recipe using pink himalayan salt. Now I can't remember where. Does anyone else recall seeing it? Or, have a link to a recipe, or a good recipe? I'd like to make a gently exfoliating bar good for people with sensitive skin.

Never mind, found it. It's in the Wednesday July 27, 2011 newsletter.

That's a possibility. I'll ask my dh next time!! What kind of soap did you make? How does the liquid laundry soap perform? I may have to get that recipe. I do so want to make soap!! It's been such a busy summer!!
