Soap Makers Help!

Someone told me once to add my fo's directly to my warm oils prior to mixing with the lye water. I always do it that way and have not had any problems getting my fo's mixed well. on the occasions when I have a soap tracing really fast that is one less thing I have to worry about. Hope that helps.

I don't put any of my soaps in the oven unless they are in individual molds. I do a banana soap and for 12.5 lbs of oils I use 4 large bananas. I mush them with a fork and then add to my oils and stick blend really well. I think the bananas add a slight banana bread scent to the soap. I lightly cover and that is it.

As far as the fragrance, try adding it to some warmed oils snd add at light trace.

Thank you, ladies. I will play around with both ways and see what works for me. I appreciate the help!

I'm waiting for the lye solution to cool just a little more...tonight I'm trying a lemongrass/ginger soap with poppyseeds. I hope it looks kinda like lemon poppyseed muffins. I've used water with saffron and some turmeric infused oil to hopefully get a pretty light yellow color.

This is the first time I've tried adding anything other than spices for color. I hope the poppyseeds works. If anyone has some huge OH GOD NOs, please chime in quickly.

I would so not be putting an attention grabber like that on my muffin topped butt to go out in public! Don't people check the mirror before leaving the house anymore?

Glad you had fun, your table looks great! Putting the soap in the bathrooms was a great idea! Your duck egg ornaments are gorgeous~ I'd have bought a ton in a heartbeat.

ChicksterJo, you know, a lavender bar was suppose to be one of my first batches~ I just couldn't wait to get that one done!~ and I still haven't done it yet.

Post pics of yours to inspire me... lol

Yes, I think it gels. Gels means it looks like light colored magma coming up in the center, correct?

I don't do anything for color, it just happens. I use 100% fresh goat's milk, that's frozen in a big chunk.

I didn't realize it until I got the bottle home but my chloropyhll was mint scented. I don't know what chlorophyll smells like but I do know two things, my soaps don't smell like mint and they don't stink either. I don't know what I smell! (FYI, I added one tablespoon of chlorophyll to the goats' milk and I added 1 tablespoon of apricot seeds to the oil mixture.)

Here are the three I made last night. I was concerned about the coconut oil content of my recipe (25% too drying) so I decided to tweak it a bit and add 1% shea butter, boy did that 1% change the texture. I hope I am not sorry.

I really need to stop making soap and start knitting!

Right, the chlorophyll bar I had was more perfume-y I guess, but not overwhelming or too sweet, either. My dd and I really liked it and would love to reproduce it. Where did you get your chlorophyll? I was going to order it online, but it sounds like you maybe found yours locally.

I wouldn't be worried about the coconut oil being too drying, what superfat percentage are you using? I did a coffee soap that was 80% coconut & 20% lard with a 20% superfat and it is a huge hit around here. My sister says her hands feel great and smell like "hotel soap" after she washes. This is weird, because the coffee soap is meant to remove smells from hands... it's totally unscented!

I need to make another batch of this soon, along with yet another that I'll add anise eo to for my hunter friends. They'll be bringing me free tallow soon, so I need to get some bars made up for them.

I like that chlorophyll one, I'm going to have to get some... That middle one is so creamy-white! I love it! What size tube are you using for your round soaps? I need to run out today and I'd like to pick up a pvc pipe while I'm out. I'm thinking 3", but a little less might be better. (I need them to fit in men's shave mugs)

I hear you! I left a hat half finished last year. I just haven't had it in me to pick it up again yet. I'm sure I'll pick up the needles again soon, but for now soaping and my books are the bigger draw.
