Soap Makers Help!

Quote:
what does that mean?? Im not understanding. are you saying mom and pop? home made?

M&P is melt & pour. The vast majority are made from synthetic detergents & alcohol, then other additives are put back in. They aren't like CP (cold process) or HP (hot process) soaps which are made using oils, liquid & lye.

There are very pretty M&P soaps out there, but I prefer CP or HP soaps where I can control the ingredients.

They look like M&P to me too. Also, my soaps are 3.5X4"X1" approximately, and they are 4oz, I wonder how dense those bricks have to be to be over twice that

PS these are the measurements given: 4 3/4" LONG.....2 5/8" WIDE......1 1/4" TALL

I was looking through his other items and came upon this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HOME-MADE-G...150?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1b9f746e
where he states all his soaps are "Glycerin based" and unless he adds artificial colors, the soaps are transluscent. So much for Homemade goats milk/shea butter/olive oil soap, eh?

Also, he has "you pick the color, scents, etc" makes them for you, and ships within 2 days. Dead giveaway. M&P 100% Also, 100% Shea butter soaps(as he states)? NO thanks.

Probably 100% Shea Butter GLYCERIN BASE soaps ... a far cry from a CP/HP 100% Shea Butter soap. Most consumers wouldn't know that though.

"Home"-made vs "Hand"-made always a confusion!

Is it 'made-from-scratch' or is it 'made-from-a-mix'?

I consider "Home"-made from scratch and "Hand"-made from a mix Are cakes you make from a box "Home"-made or "Hand"-made? It is open to interpretation.

I am glad he states that he uses a glycerin base, not that consumers really know what that is.

Well, he only states that in one listing. And I understand that his Shea butter soap is not 100% Shea, but when he states that's the only ingredient, I would say that is HIGHLY misleading for the average consumer. That's what is so off putting for my I think.

Thank you so much. All I ever ask from folks I give advice to is that one day when they are more experienced to give soapmaking advice to others. That is what my mentor told me 13 years ago ... pay it forward.

eta: sometimes I come off as "not-so-nice" and 'very little patience'. I usually go back and delete those messages with a "I'm just too tired" after I realize what I posted

Hehe we all got those days, MullersLaneFarm!! Thanks to you and the other posters who were here when this thread was just beginning...I got enough courage to make soap. Now I go crazy for soaping supplies, always wondering if I can make soap out of something

Btw, I love palm kernel oil flakes! My last two batches have been awesome with this..Can't wait to try them when they're done curing!

A friend gave me a bar o milk based soap as a gift . I really like the way the person packaged it . They took a square of fabric and wraped the bar like a package put a dot of hot glue ( at least that was what i thought it was to hold the ends and then put a cigar band type label on it . I think I'm going to use this idea . It looked nice
