Soap Makers Help!

Yes, I have heard of scent works prices. They are insane. My next order will be with Wholesale Supplies Plus as they including shipping for free over $30.00. I have been making my wish list for the past couple of days so I can research scents more on Soap Scent Review board.

That is great about the farmers market. Hope you sell lots of soap.

Just so everyone knows! Sales at essential depot on essential oils 50% off til friday midnight, and southern garden fragrances 10% during the month of march so stock up!

Anyone here make a Shampoo Bar?
I saw this on Mother Earth News website and would love to try it out - but I don't make soap. DH would kill me it I picked up another hobby.

So, I have a class of first graders coming by the farm in late April for a filed trip. My SIL is the teacher and knows aboout the soap and that I can alot of food and of course have all of the animals so she asked if I would be willing to have her class out for a soap making and salsa making demonstration. I'm looking for ideas on what fragrances, pour patterns and colors to use. This will be cold process and I'm going to make a batch next week for them to take home when they visit. Any ideas?

I need to make more shampoo bars this spring... the in-laws have been asking for them again.. so I think this time around I may need to double them up on shampoo bars when I send the next boxes of goodies!

Personally I wouldn't demonstrate cold process soapmaking to first-graders. My rule when making CP is always no children or pets in the same house, let alone the same room. How about doing melt and pour, so they could even join in a little, and take a sample home at the end?

If you do, after thinking about it, end up demonstrating to them, do please make sure you check your liability insurance first.

Keep it short and simple. First grader have a short attention span. They will be more interested in the animals than your demo.
Yes, I have a kindergartner, but she has an unusually loooooong attention span. I had to start making the melt and pour so she could make her own soap. Sometimes I think she sells more than I do!
First graders will like fruity and bubblegum scents. It sounds like a stereotype, but my granddaughters that age love pink and purple.
That's along the lines I was thinking too

If I do go ahead with this we will definately be outside. I don't ever let my daughter around it and usually do it when she's either gone to bed or gone to grandmas but outside we will have more room. I'm still undecided and have been thinking about the safest way to do it.

Thanks for everyones input!

I agree with the cold process and kids. If some one has asthma tendencies you could get into trouble. Lye even if outside could affect someone with allergies or asthma. I would do a melt and pour, if they were older like 12 than cold process would be okay. I teach once a year to a home ec junior high my soapmaking skills. I do a class on each method m/p cold process and h/p. One of my customers is the home ec teacher and to be truthful they like melt and pour the best. I think because it is quicker and maybe something they can do at home.
