Perhaps it was the recipe you were using at the time? If it contained palm oil and the stearic separated from the oil, I could understand the difficulties.
I don't use palm oil and I stir my master batch a few times while cooling.It cools off to a nice semi-solid oil that is easily stirred. My recipe contains 55% solid oils and 45% liquid oils.
