Soap Makers Help!

ok so I have made 3 batches of soap.. this is my first and third.. I have to unmold my 2nd yet. It is real soft..

these two shots show the wierd craters that formed in the pringles can.. the shorter cans (apple juice concentrate cans) did not do this they are smooth sided.

but all look like this from the tops.

these are my new molds.. some stuck??? not sure why.

My second chocolate batch stuck to my molds also. I no idea about the craters though. I like the shape of the molds though.

OH the soap balls look like Soda Ash to me...it will test higher in PH BUT not lye.

Do any of you have those ph test strips for soaping? I just use my tongue but after the last batch....I was thinking of purchasing some more. My soap buddy on another site said to neutralize the soap in isoprophyl alcohol prior to testing them.....you'd get a more accurate reading.

If the craters are only on the sides of the soap, I'd go with the first reason.

Do NOT insulate soaps in pringles cans and be sure to leave a couple inches between them if you're making multiple cans.

What FO/EO did you use? Did you use palm oil in your recipe? The reason I ask is because of those little white spots. It could be ricing from the FO/EO or it could be stearic acid if you used palm oil and you did not stir the palm real well before weighing it into your batch.

I think someone else mentioned putting them in the freezer until frozen. It really does help to unmold!

That plastic had released from the sides of the can when I went to take it out.. so that was prob it.

Im sure that is it.. it was a mostly olive oil soap.. I did put them in the freezer... just not long enough .. oh well live and learn.url]

When using a soap recipe that is mostly OO, you can greatly reduce the amount of liquid you use for the lye solution.
