Soap Makers Help!

Are you serious??

I mean, really, really serious??

My husband is so self conscience about his.

i had to look for a mirror to check, it does look fuller...i was sort of kidding...but i tell you from my research this really is amazing stuff. i checked the drain and not one hair on it...i'm not making any claims...i'll have a friend check for me and keep an eye on it...check out this link...http://www.greatestherbsonearth.com/nsp/ho_shou_wu.htm...it is a chinese herb that is supposed to work on that also. i used it for my liver not for growing hair, but it's supposed to help on that too...i haven't used it in 2 years so it won't interfere with watching the soap does for hair. i only use the bamboo charcoal soap now.

which ace hardware on harbor blvd? that is one long street...i live right at the start of it by triangle square in costa mesa.

ametauss...i am going to try that swirly, marblie, thingy too. i was researching activated charcoal made from coconut husks when i stumbled across the bamboo. when i get back to thailand i'm building a kiln that i can control enough to to bring out all that amazing stuff it can do...plus give jobs to my in laws...

Morgaine, the soap in that picture was using less of the pigment. You could easily double or triple it and make it pretty dark. Yes, everyone loved them!

Up at Adams on the right hand side from where you live. Like I said, they don't normally stock it but I was assured they'd get it for me if I let them know. They also found some in stock for me at the Ace in HB on Adams and I cleared out their shelves.

Yes, chickens ARE allowed in CM but the laws have changed since I got my girls 3 years ago. At that time, you could have 4 pets, chickens included. I *think* that now you can have 5 pets but have to get your chickens permitted or approved or something like that. If you call City Hall, they should be able to tell you.

The Feed Barn on Newport Blvd does NOT carry chicks, though they do carry feed for chickens. For live chicks, you have to go to Midway City Feed at Beach and Bolsa in the Westminster/Midway City area. They get cute little fluffy butts in each week on Wednesday. Although they tend to carry the typical breeds (Rhode Island Red, Barred Rocks, Leghorns, Easter Eggers - they call them Araucanas - Buff Orps, Australorps) they can order something special for you if it's carried at the hatcheries where they order.

So, when are you getting chicks???

Hey dude . . . . speaking of herbs, do you know of a health food store out our way where you can buy loose herbs by the pound? Mother's doesn't have any (as far as I could tell) and Henry's does but is limited to fairly common herbs. I did see a couple of herbs at Henry's that I could use in soapmaking, one of them being hibiscus which is said to provide a red/purple color to soap, though I don't have personal experience in this and can't vouch that it'd work.

Morgaine I have used liquid soap dyes. Did a swirl pictured several pages back from a purple that turned out pink. I have tried red and the brand I used faded some.
Also, I've done some swirls with melted crayon....yes they are natural since so many children try to eat them. You have to compensate more conditioning for the wax.
As for watermelon rind...a swirl of a light green and a dark green would give the rind a nice look.

Backyard Buddies...herb by the pound??? you're asking an OC guy where to buy herb by the pound???

i got that on speed dial

sorry i couldn't resist that, i'll keep my eyes open for it. that is if you tell me which herbs your looking for...i told you i'm new to this. can you do anything with honeysuckle? there is a ton of it in bloom outside my door. i was interested in learning more about lemongrass...that is one of the few things that the roving hordes of cattle or water buffalo don't eat in my village. the whole country of thailand is like open grange. i've seen the cows eating out of garbage cans at night...this is a city of about 500,000. i live just outside the city there.

i found coconut oil at walmart, but 25 miles away. i'm going to look around for plam oil and coconut oils up in anaheim...in middle-eastern stores. i'll also look in lil saigon...that is where i got ho shou wu. so i'll keep my eyes open in some of those markets up there.

as for the chickens...think you've planted a seed. i do get up to beach blvd every Wednesday...pizza at 2 brothers pizza. straight shot up to midway. had been thinking of raising crickets...i see the driveway moving at night there is so many here. in-laws in thailand raise them for eating, only need a 2' concrete pipe section, some egg cartons. a little butter and some garlic...serve them like peanuts in bars...really tasty after you've had some herb by the pound

if you want, i'll give you some of the bamboo charcoal after i get it made.

Crickets? Ick! I have a friend who traveled in China and ate grasshoppers, so I suppose it's the same thing. But still . . . .

Let me know how your search goes for the oils and such. I don't know if it's still there, but there was a middle eastern market in the shopping center at Bristol and Paularino. It was right in the corner of the L. It wasn't a big market, tho, so they may not have the variety you're looking for.

The herb I'm looking for is comfrey leaf:

When you infuse your Olive Oil with the comfrey leaves, it makes a nice green soap.

Speaking of OO, I picked up more at Costco today. The price has gone down to $20.99.
