Soap Makers Help!

Quote:
I'd say yes...as long as you are lining it with parchment, wax, or freezer paper some even use a trash bag...then it really does not matter what the mold it is made of.

Let soap sit in mold for 24 hours

Put into freezer for a few hours (until frozen)

Take out of freezer and put on counter for at least 30 minutes. You should see some 'sweat beads' on the outside of the molds or on the soap. Give unmolding a try at that time.

I used to use the milky way brocade mold, last Christmas I made 100 bars to give to every one. Here are a few tips that I found worked well with my somewhat sticky recipe I was using then.

If you gel, you need to use a water discount. This will make your bars harder faster. To make sure my bars were gelling, I would preheat to 170 and then turn it off. I would pour my soap into the mold and then put the mold into cardboard box, and then put that into them oven. I always got a full gel that way. Once the soap has fully gelled, you want to take it. Once it is hard enough, try to pop it out while it is still hot. I could almost always get perfect bars that way. If you wait for the soap to cool and harden, It sticks much more to the mold. You have to babysit those molds a lot, once reason why I quit doing them.

Your other option is to not to gel. What I also did was pour the soap into the mold (using a water discount) and then in 30-45 minutes it would be firm but not gelled and I would very carefully turn it out onto a parchment line cookie sheet and then put that into the fridge for a couple of hours. I would wait a few days before moving them off the cookie sheet though because ungelled soaps are softer at first. Handle as little as possible till hard enough.

I hope some of these help. I stopped using the milky way mold because they were a lot of trouble. What you might want to look into is Wholesale supplies plus silicone molds. They have free shipping on them too. I think monday I'm going to order the round soap mold.

Oh and I did the freezer thing too, sometimes it would work and sometimes not. Doing one of the above tips, I would have about 90% of my soaps perfect, other wise I was lucky to have 50% because the middle ones would always sticks way more.

Ok I read a little more on the thread. I wanted to say that I had much more sucess if the were out of the mold by 5-6 hours. If it stayed in longer it stuck more. I know it depends on your recipe too, but really try popping those suckers out as soon as it is hard enough, like 1 hour after pouring (not gelling).

yeah see the last batch I did the outter edge was really nice but the inner portion was all gooey... I think I need to employ a certain husband of mine to get to building me a bar mold. then I can slice the bars. funny thing is I have all the stuff for him to make a mold for me just laying around the garage. soooo perhaps a sweet talking is in order!!!!

I knew there was a reason that I only bought one mold. I just thought that it might be a pain to work with!

That stupid Fed Ex... I even gave our driver some soap samples the last time he delivered to see if that wouldn't get me my stuff in a timely manner... guess it didn't work... He delivered my DH's package to the wrong address across town.... Thank goodness DH called and they were able to track it down... just can't believe they could be that far off....

Brandy, those look fantastic! Love the blue one too. I made a pumpkin spice soap last week with coconut milk too! It was the first time I did one of those pencil lines and most of them turned out very good! I also did a confetti soap scented with patchouli. I like it a lot, I just should have used more confetti.

What does Bermuda Breeze smell like?

ametauss- Can't wait to see some pictures! That rose geranium does smell good. And I totally agree, Fed Ex Sucks! Hope you get your stuff soon!

I knew I was going to get that question!! It smells like Irish Spring to me or maybe Old Spice deodorant?? Very sporty smelling...not really beachy?? When I think beach...I think coconut, pineapple, and cocoa butter smelling. It'll do.
I'm getting ready to make a patchouli confetti too...I had a request for the CONFETTI in the patchouli. I do not prefer this scent...but I'll stomach it.
I'm thinking of trying out other scents from some of the other scent companies. I've tried everything from Sweet Cakes...my favorites from there are Clean Cotton, Tangerine Spice, and their AppleJack Peel. I order my fresh lavender from the Chemistry store...LOVE that one. I ordered from FNWL an English Lavender
