Soap Makers Help!

I think that I am going to try making soap and have been reading on this sites and other sites about the process and would like to order my oils and butters but I can't seem to find a good simple goats milk recipe that uses fresh goats milk not canned ( I live in Canada and we don't have such a thing)and that makes around three lbs. (recipes on the net are either too small or too large) of soap, I would also like to superfat it because winter is coming and I get really dry skin. I would love any other advice too. I am so excited to try this and want to make some for Christmas presents as well. Thank you!

have you looked at millersoap.com / I would try a water soap for your first batch, just to get a feel of it, then try milk soap.

And if you find a recipe you think you want to try, enter it into soap calc and then you can change it to the size you want and it will recalculate it for you.

Soap calc's default superfat is 5%. You could try bumping it up to 7% but if you are making milk soaps I wouldn't go over that.

I've found that the brown plastic Hershey's Cocoa spice box makes a good mold.
(I make a lot of old fashioned fudge and homemade hot chocolate.) Look at the bottom of the container.

I cut a large hole in the bottom leaving some of the bottom along the edge to help the plastic hold it's shape. I use this hole so I can pour the soap in. The lid snaps off and on and retains a good seal. When the oap is gelled/set, I remove the lid and slide the soap out by pushing through the hole in the bottom. I can get four fat bars or five thinner bars from each container. ....and the containers are reuseable.

If I rebatch a soap or make a small batch I use these containers too.

Good news!- I ordered me some soap colors, molds, clear base, and fragrance mostly from bramble berry!!! I was suprised by the selectoin they have of natural and other stuff. after a test batch I will start makeing Hanukah gifts then afterwards I will move on to water soap then milk soap then do research for healing soaps. my order should be here thursday! Congrats! Now your next challenge is to see if you can keep yourself down to only a few times a day of checking to see where your order is in transit.

I ordered some more Lemon , orange (5 X) and patchouli eo's. Earth child is doing very well, I'm going to make it a permanet one.

Any do an orange and cinnamon blend with eo's?

actually the scents was the only thing I didn't order from brambleberry and I got jasmine mixed with jojoaba (?) I will have to find out what it smells like when it gets here. stuepid me should have asked you guys what is some good smelling stuff, so what are some favs?

My personal fav is Oatmeal Milk Honey from brambleberry. Their cucumber Melon is very nice too.

Where did you order your scent from? For melt n pour it should be ok, but when you start to do cold process, you want to make sure that you fragrances that are not diluted in carrier oils. Just a heads up.
