Soap Makers Help!

I have never hear of fuzzy wuzzy soap. What the heck is it? It grows fur? Can I ask why?

I was cleaning and organizing last night and broke a string on my log splitter. And some where between pouring fridays soap and breaking it out Saturday, I lost one of my bolts to my big slab mold. I still have not found that sucker! Hence the taking apart and cleaning the soap room. That and I am totally running out of room. I have a small couch in there but I'm going to have dh take it out so I can stack all my pails and boxes of oils. They take up so much valuable rack space.

Once I find my bolt I'm going to soap Fata Morgana from the Scent Works and more lemongrass, I just delivered 30 bars lemongrass to a lady at the school this morning. How was everyone's markets? I didn't make mine because of the rain.

I'm not sure I would use a fuzzy soap... would make me think it had gone bad.... I would like to see it if someone makes some.... Post a pic and a recipe.

Been out hunting for a pygmy billy so I can have some milk come spring.... found one and also ordered some powdered goat's milk.... not sure how my soap will be using powdered goat's milk but it was cheaper than buying pasturized goat's milk from the store.... I also got some honey powder.

Anyone use honey powder in their soaps instead of real honey??

I found a local guy that sells honey and it was soooooo good, I didn't want to put it in any of my soaps....

I have not used honey powder, but I think you use it just like regular honey.

I hope you find a billy soon, I am so envious. I would love to get fresh milk! I use powder milk at times and what I do is add it to my melted oils and stick blend in. If you don't add the lye right away, it will settle to the bottom, but a quick burst from the sb mixes it right back in. My soaps are a nice cream color this way.

I STILL have not found my bolt!!! But in the search have almost completly cleaned my soap room. It's amazing how many empty oil containers I had just stacked everywhere, those got dumped. I kept some of the glass bottles from Fo's, but recycled a bunch of the small ones. I made room for my lotion and scrub containers. I am so glad that I got around to doing this! Now I just need to go the hardware store and get a new bolt. Oh, great space saver tip: get those table riser, it raises the table like 6 inches and then you can stack a lot of extra stuff under there.

I got my order from SGS. Pink Sugar is nice, I've really been enjoying the lotion I made with a sample of this so I went a head and got 8 oz of it. Island kiss is different than I thought it would be. Less fruity, little more floral. Not bad though. Cucumber Melon, It's different than the BB cybilla one. More musky I guess. I'll use it to make cucumber and mint. The passion fruit flavor oil smells just like fruit punch kool aid. Chocolate fudge is eh, not that great.

hopefully I'll soap tonight.

I found a long haired pygmy billy on Craigslist.... he's sooo cute... Now I have to wait 5 or 6 mths for milk... if he does his job....

I was thinking of mixing the powdered milk up with a little water and then using that in the oil since I usually use all milk in with the lye.... this will be a little different but I wanted to keep my soaps as goat's milk soaps....

Well, I re-melted my failed soap and stirred it some more, held it at 110* for awhile stirring it hoping to make it do something.

It didn't seem to look too much different than it did last time, but it did get stiffer. I poured it back into the molds before it could set up in the pot, and it seems to be hardening. I watched it like a hawk, and it never seemed to turn translucent- just sort of uniformly creamy. Maybe it worked this time. Oh, and I remembered to grease the molds this time

I am showing my age!

It was a very famous soap in the '60's. You could use it like soap but the fur was just for fun.

I don't know what the chemical reaction is that causes the soap to grow fur.

I have asked and it seems that no one knows. I even found a YouTube video that shows the whole box but it doesn't have any ingredients.

Hope you found your bolt at the hardware store.

In your search you will probably also see the Snowman that grows "snow" and the Cat that grows fur. These are being made currently.

Yes I got my bolt today. I still don't know where the other one is. Soap grimlins must have taken it. So hopefully I'll get to soap today.

Valmom- Glad to hear that your rebatch worked!
