I see a lot of posts about soapmaking, and am interested in trying it. Where do I learn how? I see a lot of terms I have no Idea what they mean. Thanks

I've done this for a while. It's really easy - easier than making a cake.

You can just follow a reicpe (there are many on the internet) or make up your own. Just calculate the correct amount of lye to fat ratio. There are many online calculators, this is the one that I use. MMS .

Just accurately get the ratios correct and you won't have a problem.

Also, don't expect it to smell like commercial soap unless you dump a ton of perfume into it (I never have). It works just the same as bought soap.

I don't think there's an economic advantage to making your own, but it's interesting and something to do.

I second what chiknwhisperer said. There is a ton of info on the soap maker's help thread. I also started a soap maker's reference thread that has links to places that show you how to start out.
