SOB save our birds

The word euthanasia is from Latin and means “good death.” No one’s going to be out there stomping on baby chicks, that is absolutely ridiculous-and if they are, can be prosecuted for felony animal cruelty, even in an emergency situation like this one. If you are reading claims Of barbaric dispatch/culling methods and it sounds too outrageous to be true , that’s because it probably is. don’t buy into hysterical posts.

If you want to verify if or how the CA Ag workers met the conditions of a "good death" it begins at the second hour in Kerri's video. It's not a good quality video but I think you could get an idea if they were violating the standards as she claims.

From the California Poultry Federation website...

"In a state known for its huge agricultural economy, the California poultry industry has an enormous impact producing sales in excess of $2.5 billion annually, making it one of the state’s agricultural leaders.

The California poultry industry provides jobs for over 25,000 people throughout the state and indirectly to tens of thousands more in affiliated industries including trucking and feed suppliers. California poultry industry employees earn more than $250 million annually, working in a variety of jobs from farm managers to processing plant workers, researchers, accountants and poultry executives."

Thanks for that info. I was looking for its equivalent to put this matter in perspective but I wasn't able to find it.

Add to the people and businesses put in distress the small single family farms that supply live chickens who are now barred from supplying much of their historic market. And then contemplate where any of us will get eggs or meat if the virus spreads and more commercial operations are depopulated.

Which is why CDFA should go after the employee stomping chickens while shooting. They need a public demonstration that they care and will take action when it's not euthanasia but cruelty. Otherwise, you'll have more people hiding/moving/not reporting.

Meanwhile, the December USDA-APHIS study has named these risk factors: 1) Flocks of more than 20; 2) more than 50 percent roosters; 3) gamebird presence. LA County has responded to cockfighting by putting in restrictions of 2-10 roosters depending on lot size. AFAIK, if you want to have flocks like this, be NPIP and under government scrutiny.

What type of facility was this? An industrial poultry facility overcrowded with stressed, unhealthy chickens pumped up on antibiotics and hormones? Did the 90% that died die from vNCD, or culling?
Cock fighting facility, guy moved his 2 best fighting bird from compton to the place in ventura county. They were infected, died there and infected other roosters

She's asking about the facility with the 4,900 chickens that were euthed as a result.

As the government is prioritizing their feelings over our interest in the information, we are unlikely to know, but one possibility is that we're talking about a specialized breeder for a specialized group.

Despite several posts by people on Facebook, CDFA states there is NO data saying this outbreak came from fighting roosters! Smuggled birds, yes. The only KNOWN transfer of the virus due to cockfighting was the Compton to Ventura spread. Two roosters were taken from Compton to a site in Santa Paula so that the CDFA didn’t kill his best fighters. Those two birds died quickly, and infected the others at the location. At that site, over 4,800 roosters were killed. Of all the positive tests, most have been backyard flocks, for eggs and pets. The term used on official documents, “Backyard Exhibition Birds” is a generic one, and does not denote cockfighting, and it is sometimes chosen by the property owner.

A site in Santa Paula, doesn't say what the site was BUT read between the lines...it was all roosters
