To those in the San Diego region:

I ordered 4 female blue Swedish ducklings about 7 weeks ago from Metzer farms. When I brought them home from the post office, I was accidentally given 4 additional ducks. I ordered strictly females to appease the two, one year old, drakes I already have. I have given the 8 new ducklings so much love and affection and they are very loving and affectionate in return.

Sadly, three of the extra ducklings I received are male khaki Campbell’s and the fourth is a male mallard/golden 300 hybrid. Unfortunately, I cannot keep the additional males, so if anyone is looking for a khaki Campbell drake, mallard/300 drake, or 4 drakes 😉, I am putting them up for adoption/looking to rehome them or even make a trade! All 4 boys are very quiet and extremely calm. They are even willing to sleep next to you or on you! It devastates me to have to do this, but my two drakes are a LOT to handle with the hormones surging! Thanks for reading!

Me too 😔 I am attached to them and if I had a proper set up for 6 boys while keeping the 4 gals safe , I would try to keep them all. It’s just not doable right now.
I know how you feel, I have 2 cockerels that were supposed to be pullets that I'm trying to rehome but I might keep one cockerel.

Even worse… I’m a plant based girl, so it would devastate me to send them someplace where their lives would be cut short. If I wasn’t attached, it would be a different story. The whole reason I don’t eat meat is because I love animals so much and don’t have the strength mentally/emotionally to process an animal myself. I 100% respect those who can.

That being said, I would just build a house/run for either drakes or ducks, but obviously prices for things are high. My fiancé has built so many things for my barnies (as I call them) that I think asking for another thing is out of the question. We will see! Fingers crossed for my drakes and your cockerels!

I don't eat meat either. I don't like processing chickens, I haven't culled one in probably over 4 years! It is hard to rehome males to a place where they will not be culled. You could have a only drake flock, they will not fight as long as they are no females around. There are rooster sanctuaries, I don't know if they would take ducks though, maybe they do.

I ordered the girl ducklings to help my two existing boys, but I got the 4 girls and an extra 4 ducklings which are the boys I’m rehoming. I can’t help but to think the hatchery pawned them off on me. I also wanted girls to deter the male ducks from my chickens because they constantly have been trying to go after them. An all drake flock would put me in the same predicament as before, just worse. I wonder if I were to get a rooster if it would cause more issues between chickens and ducks or less?
