Soft egg dropped from roosting bar, vet prescribe Clavacillin 250mg twice daily, not chicken behaving ill

The amoxicillin can help if treated early for salpingitis, a potential cause of lash egg material. This is a common condition in hens over 2, unfortunately.
We took her off the amoxicillin because of the loose stools and put her on Tylan 250mg 1x/day instead. What do you think?

For a five pound bird (healthy weight) feeling lethargic, maybe give some aspirin. I give aspiron when my chickens have a fever, and it uaually makes them want to eat and perk up for a few hours. Aspirin + tylosin is a pretty reliable combo for me, when it comes to respiratory and the head type infections. The post about the fever sounded plausible, but you said you didnt notice a temperature abnormality, but it would be worth a try.

Thank you. Ut is behaving normally today. Out there foraging with the rest of the hens. Came running to me this morning with the others. No diarrhea that i can see under the roosting bar..

Eggcessive, you seem to have a lot of chicken knowledge and experience. do you think this is lash egg? Doctor said it was not. That is was left over egg shell with membrane material in it. But other posters on FB chicken groups are saying that she is wrong, its lash egg, and to get a second opinion… they are not doctors, i dont know them. It doesn’t look anything like the lash egg photos on the internet, it looked like highly pigmented rolled up eggshell with tuna in it (probably been sitting in uterus collecting pigment since the soft shell incident on 10/3), but why would the membrane look and feel like tuna? Did it just kinda cook in there for a week? and why would it stay in her for so long? It did not have any odor to it. there was not any pus. And she is behaving like a healthy foraging chicken since it came out. Also, i no longer have the egg, i took it to the vet yesterday and it wasnt given back to me when i picked her up, im not sure if that makes getting a second opinion harder?!

I do think it was lash egg material, but I hate to disagree with your vet, since I am not one. I would have continued the amoxicillin and finish it, since tylosin is more for treating MG respiratory infection or sometimes used with enteritis. That said, some people don’t like to use antibiotics for lash eggs or salpingitis, since it may or may not help. Lash eggs may look different in each case. Some look flesh colored, and may have a cooked egg appearance inside when cut in half. But here is a reddish one that is a little more like the one yours had:

hmmm. Hen’s wasn’t chunky or cheesy looking like all of the other pictures. It literally looked like flaked tuna, nothing else in there. I haven’t seen any lash eggs pics that look like her ”egg”. Since she got it out, she has been behaving 100 percent again, like a healthy chicken 👏 (knock on wood).. is that typical of lash egg? I mean the vet did put her on the antibiotic due to suspected oviduct infection, but she was firm when she said “no thats not lash egg, lash egg is more cheesy and rubbery than this”
