Hi all,
I have written before about my Australorp x Rhode Island Red who, we think has a problem with her shell gland.
I have been giving her calcium periodically and this stopped the soft eggs. However, now, if I didn't give her a calcium tablets every second day, the last 3 eggs were soft.
Would this mean that her shell gland has well and truly packed it in?
I'm at a loss as to what to do. Any advice would be gratefully accepted. 🥰

Possible she has a defective shell gland.

If giving the Calcium every second day seems to correct the problem for now, then that's what I'd do.

You can always evaluate the diet to see if there's any changes that can be made, but if this hen is the only one having issue, then likely diet is not a major problem.

Thanks for your reply Wyorp rock. I'm just concerned that the second daily calcium no longer seems adequate. Can she'll glands just stop working???
