Soft eggs

Is it common for chickens to sometimes lay a soft shelled egg? I have 10 hens that are 10 months old and I've gotten 2 eggs now that are probably from on of my partridge rock hens that is soft shelled, as in, it indents from pressure on it but doesn't break. I feed laying mash that has oyster shell mixed in plus I have oyster shell in a free choice feeder and I occasionally throw out scrambled eggs with the egg shell mixed in. Will they occasionally lay an egg like this anyway? One of my PRs looks like she's near the bottom of the pecking order. Will stress do this? Any suggestions?

I just got one from my EE. its only the 2nd egg its laid. Lots of people say its common.

Jared, have they been laying for a while?sometimes first or second eggs are soft.......I just found one like it......not sure at all which chicken laid it for me........ sounds like you are feeding them right...... I think it has to do with them being new layers?

they've been laying for about 4 months i think. They are about 10 months old and I have gotten about 112 eggs out of them since they were given to me a month ago. There have only been 2 eggs like this in that time.

I think it is normal especially in cold weather to get weird eggs. Boost the nutrients they are getting. Add a handful of cat food, give them some cooked rice and yogurt. If you get another egg like that you know it is something with that hen and she might need a bigger boost with vitamins and added foods. It is winter with the stress of staying warm. Eggs can get wonky the same in the summer when they are dealing with the stress of summer heat.

It's usually normal...just like us gals having a bad hair day

...They don't get it perfect everytime just keep an eye out if it happens alot and try upping their protein...
