soft leathery-looking egg??

Hi. In the coop this morning, on the ground, was a soft leather-like thing, maybe a shell?, with a slug-like looking thing attached to it. Anyone know what that might be??

New layer I assume? Our RSL's first 'egg' was not completely formed, had a leathery soft 'shell' and had white/yolk coming out of it. I could see the egg white looking 'sluglike'...

agreed, we always get 1 or two from our new layers, nothing to be alarmed about.

Well, I have 2 who should be laying anytime, as well as couple of older chickens.

one of my adopted girls that had been picked on really badly layed two in a week. But all is well now. I would have to concur with the stress thing.
