Hello all -- Thanks in advance for any advice or information you might have for me.
When I went to let the girls out into the yard for a bit this morning I found the scary wobbly thing (the object on the right side of the picture) in the nesting box. I thought it was a little weird - perhaps a soft-shelled egg that got stepped on or something. It's kind of just a rubbery mass. Then I noticed that under the roost in the run, there was another egg with what looked like a shell-less egg attached to it.
2 of my 3 hens are acting normally, but my easter-egger (who alas, does not lay easter eggs) was being a little weird and lethargic. I didn't notice anything unusual about her vent. Also, they just started laying consistently about a month ago and though I'm not 100% positive, I would not have guessed that the egg that I found under the roost is hers. I was thinking that hers were the more oblong light brown eggs.
As far as I know, they haven't experienced any major change lately. They did get some dated buttermilk yesterday, but otherwise just regular laying rations, veggie scraps and scratch. They drank a little less water than usual, perhaps. Their bedding and nesting material is wood shavings and they are all about 8-9 mos. old. Wyandotte, Buff Orpington & Easter Egger. I've been getting about 2 - 2.5 eggs/day on average.
I have to leave the house now until night time. :-( I figured I'd put out some oyster shells for them and cross my fingers. I'll have my sister check on them this afternoon.
Any thoughts or links to posts that I failed to find in my searching?
