We have 8 hens, and 1 rooster that are approaching 24 weeks old. Five of our hens are laying that we have seen with our own eyes, all in the nesting boxes with no problems. One is a bantam and she isn't laying yet. One is in the chicken hospital. So that leaves one barred rock hen that is doing this.

For the past three weeks, once every week, we have found three soft shelled eggs in the poop pit, and today three soft shelled eggs were laid in the chicken yard and were in the process of being devoured. The first has a very weak shell, and the other two are just rubbery. I am assuming they are coming from the same hen, one right after the other. I say that because we still get our other 5 eggs, and these aren't bantam eggs.

They are on layer feed free choice, and have access to oyster shell free choice.

My question is: How long do you think it would take for her to work this out? Obviously three eggs at a time isn't normal.

Anyone else have a hen do this?
