Soft shell under roost

I have a coop with a "house" that has the nesting boxes and then a short run with a larger one attached. For whatever reason they use to sleep in the house and for some time now they sleep on the roost in the short run. I went out to free them into the large run and to feed them and I noticed, what looked like part of a latex glove, sitting in their poo under the roost. Upon closer inspection it was a soft shell. Has anyone else had a hen lay off of the roost? I thought that was odd, and that it had to have happened in the middle of the night. What causes soft shells? They will be a year old in two weeks. I'm just imaging my hen sitting there and going "OHhhh"

and dropping it out. I am sure she felt just as confused as I do...

yea mine did that once or twice they may pop out at night prematuraly lol its alright
