MAINE
My hen will be a yr.old in May. She has been laying all along nice hard shell eggs. This morning I go out to her coopand there on the floor is a Soft shelled egg and an egg with a partial soft shell attached.
I have been feeding Flock Raiser with some scratch feed, Oyster shells and grit.
What could be causing this? Any Suggestion?

Is she getting enough sunlight?

Sounds like what would normally be a calcium problem is something else instead.

If she is fine tomorrow don't worry it was a glitch, they happen for no reason once in awhile, if it continues I don't know, sorry.

It sounds like the eggs didn't have enough time to get their shells on.

Unless this continues on a regular basis, don't worry too much about it. Our first year girls throw quite a few before the plumbing settles down. Usually, if given the opportunity, they will carry these to some distance from the nest and/or eat them.

LOL! That is exactly what she is doing! I lost her mate due to a heart attack, she is alone now and I'm pretty sure she wants to be bred, as she stands there fluttering her wings.
