Solar Chicken? *Pics on post #13*

It made perfect sense til you got to the last part and then I got confused because it can't be low and high at the same time. I suppose I could just tend her symptoms and move on but it is such a mystery to me that I just can't leave it alone.

I don't know about your hen... but have you thought of using a uvb bulb in their coop?

By that - I mean a light bulb used for reptile/amphibians ... like :

http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/compact_fluorescent_bulbs.php

This is the kind of lights I need to provide my turtles so that they can get their essential vitamins... ... might help your hen (and it won't hurt the others).

But I would also up the calcium & vitamin d (you can get the human pills and give them to her in her treats

This way you have a more accurate idea of now much extra d & calcium she's getting/needs ... I even "dissolve" the pills and then use a eye dropper/syringe to drip them into my birds mouth's when they need extra or need their medicine....

Good luck!.

If she were a true albino, wouldn't the sun cause her skin to burn? she is so pretty. Obviously she needs the sunlight. How did she fare over the winter. I wonder if it is more than the vit. D she needs from the sun. Mysteries gnaw at me like a toothache plus a life hangs in the balance. There has to be some answer.

I think she is very pretty and like her feathers. Three Horses hasn't posted in a long time. I wonder what knowledge she would shed on this problem.

reading your post, i recently was btested and i have low levels of vit d i take 50000 units a week for 4 weeks, then will be b tested again i noticed a difference in my self ,could you have her blood tested? good luck

I knew it was something along those lines, but its not always easy to make the connection to my anatomy class and House!!!! Maybe once I get my BSN, I can correctly diagnose my chickens....

Perhaps I should just go into veterinary medicine...Tufts is so hard to get into

Thanks for the clarification. I, personally have hypothyroidism, not quite the same condition, but man!! it can wreak havoc on your body. Hope my hens never have to deal with that!!

This post is VERY interesting.
I am SO happy that your girl ended up with a mommie that loves her so much.

I did have a question.
And I mean that in the most respectful way.
But...

HOW on earth did you figure out that it was the "Sunlight" that she needed?

There are so many different things that it could have been.
I wouldn't have thought that she would have been under the weather because of the lack of light.
I have read a lot of posts, and most people recommend putting ill birds into dark places to calm them down and help them heal.

Amazing how you figured it out!

KUDOS.!!!
MAJOR KUDOS.!!!

I posted the original discovery in post #7. I guess I should have just updated post #1 LOL. Oh well and your question is a completely normal question. No offense taken
