solar panel install for pullet-shut door

Anyone have any recommendation for how they installed their solar panel for the pullet-shut door. We have several option regarding location that will allow for ample light, but I'd love a little input regarding what - if anything - you did to seal the back of the solar panel. Did you mount it to wood first and then mount to your location or just mount directly to the surface? And how did you secure it in place?

I just used some silicone and stuck it to the roof. So far it has stuck well and works good.....
