Sold Salmon Faverolles by MPC, but they don't look like SFs to me

Final verdict from MPC and Meyer: yellow-legged chickens are Chanteclers. I had never heard of them, but fingers crossed they work out. Supposedly they lay all winter, so...? We'll see how that goes.

Ah, good call. Buff Chanteclers are not a breed we see very often here on BYC, and they are a very cold hardy breed.

I have partridge Chenteclers, I adore them. Theyre a great dual purpose breed, and my hens do lay very well during the winter.

Still, they're certainly not what you ordered... :/

I believe that. I had never heard of them before today and I did so much research on BYC before I bought my first chicks in 2014. Something like half my post count was from BEFORE I got my first six chicks! So, yeah...rare for BYC, I think!

My neighbor had a trio of them and said she wouldn't mind having more. She likes their temperament. So that and the cold hard/year-round laying thing is encouraging!

There is another poster questioning what they got from MPC!!
I will look for that. Feel free to send them my way. I would be happy to share my experience.

Going forward I will either hatch my own and deal with what I get, or I will buy started pullets! I love chicks but this 2015 experience has been a nightmare. (Last year was nowhere near this kind of ordeal. Just a roo, a refund, a rehoming, and we were fine.)

I'm so happy to hear that! Thank you for chiming in! It is great to hear encouraging news!

I guess next year I will try again to find Olive Eggers. That's what I originally wanted. MPC called me on ship day (because none of their OEs hatched) and I switched to SFs then.

Hi, just came across your old thread on an unrelated search--but I wanted to chime in and say that another route to consider next time is getting your chicks from Meyer directly. From what I've heard (and as you apparently know), MPC gets most/all of their chickens from Meyer anyway. I have no relation to Meyer, but I have ordered all 13 of my chickens from them over the last 6 years, and have had only one error in all my orders (one roo instead of a pullet, which still puts them ahead of their 90% sexing guarantee overall). Mine have all been healthy, happy, and lovely. I would love to get chicks from local breeders and/or hatch my own, but since I can't have roos where I live, and because I like to have a variety of breeds but am not stuck on show quality (would be nice, but not really necessary in my situation), ordering sexed pullets from a hatchery has been my best bet. I went with Meyer because they are driving distance from me, but I've been very happy with the experience. Your experience with MPC sounds absolutely ridiculous--sorry you had to deal with that!
