We recently suffered a predator attack and lost 7/8 chickens. We have one left, a Phoenix pullet named Fawkes.
We cant get any more, mainly because the heart break, and Im afraid Im attatched to this pullet.
Is it alright to keep her alone, or should I bite my tongue and rehome her?

They like having a group, but if you can spend a lot of time with her or even get her a duck or goose for company she might be fine. I'm so sorry you lost them.

I find spending time with the lone bird still does not make up for it. Just like we want to spend time with other humans (most of us) rather than only having sheep to spend time with  it's so much nicer for the hen to have another chicken to spend time with. I know it's hard when you're attached to them. And I'm sorry to hear about the other seven birds you lost.

Well that sucks. But in life its not how you take your Wins, its how you react to your Losses and learn/grow. We've all fallen off the "bike" before and it hurts, but learn from it.

If you decide to rebuild your flock, give some good hard thought to predator-proofing your coop/run area.

After that, maybe start off slow with 2 or 3 chicks and get back on that bike and ride! Life is too short to not do what you enjoy! :love

I went ahead with the decision to rehome her. Its heartbreaking but after what shes been through its the safest option and I know she’ll be loved.
