I understand your situation!
My husband is fine with my chickens so long as they can be left alone from time to time and I only have like 4 neighbors and I just know them I don't hang with them!

I used a kitchen garbage pal ((holes drilled on bottom so water would come out)) with a larger lid from a different plastic bin underneath to hold water!
I would think you could do the same with a large garbage pail!!!
my major concern when going away is eggs ((I don't want them to get in the habit of breaking & eating!))
