The ones on the MD end are not sold, their population is controlled through birth control rather than the auctions that happen on the VA end.

I've been to the MD end 2 times and went around Christmas and it was pretty much deserted. But, no bugs either which is a major plus.

With you being closer it would probably be easier for you to go on a nice winter day, I have to plan way in advance and get a hotel room and all so I get whatever weather happens while I'm there. The first year was nice, it was in the 50's and obviously windy, but not bad, the 2nd year it was cold enough the ocean was freezing in the shallows... that was less pleasant... lol

Yeah.. We've also had a few stolen we think by the pirates.
Thats the good thing about the winter is it's deserted and most of the time is pretty warm. A few times it's very cold, back in 2015-2016 it was really bad. I could get it was probably less pleasant😂

I went 2016 and 2017, apparently we got lucky when we went 2016 since that was the warmer year. lol
