Some body please please help me...

Welp, we checked on him not 90 seconds later and he was dead, we waited a little longer just to make sure, but he was definitely dead. Hubby just buried the poor guy for me.

What a good rooster he was, i seriously cant replace him, i dont even know where I'd start to find another like him.

You know what, Chicken Fruit, you did the best and fastest thing that you could, and if you made that really tight, I'm sure your rooster died very quickly. I think that was very resourceful, and with the way you're feeling, practically heroic. Kudos to you, it is very tough, but it makes you stronger and you will learn from this so that next time, and there will be a next time, because this is real life (and death) your decisions will be even more confident and informed. And you, your animals, your family, everyone will be the beneficiaries. I'm sorry about your good rooster guy, though.

I know its to late now but....... I had a hen the same way and she was like that for 5 days before I knew it, I was going to throw her over the fence and let her die and my wife wouldn't let me. She washed her hind end while I went to Tractor supply to get screw worm spray. We sprayed her hind end with it and the rest of the maggots fell out. We then put wound coat on it and the next day she was eating and drinking and by the 3rd day she was running in the yard and made a full recovery.
Sorry for your loss

I have to agree...we are not always perfect and don't always know the perfect thing to do...but you did your best and you ended his suffering. If he died fairly quickly, then you handled your responsibility. Good job, and I'm sorry for you loss.

I was going to throw her over the fence and let her die ....

This whole thread is like a bad nightmare but...Billy, I do commend you for your honesty, otherwise folks wouldn't get to read what had ultimately helped your ailing hen. Thanks for taking the time to share that. I'm so glad for your wife's good heart. She's a keeper. Maybe she has rubbed off on you a little bit

She is a keeper...... She wanted nothing to do with my chickens and now she is as involved as I am. She has the bigger heart as you can tell.

I am really sorry you had to do this. I can't say what I would do because I haven't had to yet. I had to put down a tiny baby and used baking soda and peroxide but never a grown chicken. I know we all try to do the best we can. I have heard of people putting them in a bag and running over them, breaking their necks, suffocating, all kinds of things that make me shudder. But in the end, no matter what someone chooses, death is unpleasant and I doubt most want it to be painful for their animal.

You poor thing. Morning sickness that last 24/7 is excruciation. You can't eat you can't sleep all you can do if be sick. Then to have to deal with a sick Roo is bad enough but poo and maggots I shutter to think of it.
Don't you dare feel bad for not being able to do more, your life and that babies are FIRST priority and don't let anyone make you think differently. Out pets are just that, and can be sooo very important to us, but they are pets and not first priority when you have to make a choice.

You did the best you could under the circumstances and that is all anyone can ask.
