I have a silkie chick that is way smaller than the rest and was the "runt" when we got them. They were 2-1/2 weeks old when I got them on a Sunday. They will be 6 weeks old the 5th & 6th. The first several days were really hard with the smaller one. It wouldn't do anything but stand [when it walked it wobbled drunk like], chirp, eat, drink and poo [did have pastey butt for several days.] We were giving it a week to get better. It has in every sense and started gaining weight. This little one is still only weighing in at 1.8 ozs on a postal scale while the others weigh between 5 and almost 9 ozs.
Now this morning when hubby and I were changing water, feeding and doing the newspaper bedding we get a surprise. I picked up the little one and hubby commented on the funny looking stuff on butt. I said it's a little dried poo I never got off and didn't want to mess with. I showed him the butt and a bug was running across it! It was like a light grayish color. I've searched mites and lice on here and don't see a pic of what I'm looking for. Is it a mite or lice or something else? I might be able to get a pic of the little silkies butt if anyone wants to see what I thought was dried poo.
What is the safest, best, fastest, easiest and cheapest way to treat? I will definitely have to treat all my silkies, there are 14 of them. Can we get that bug from them or will they just stay on the chickens? We hold them, play with them, sit them on our shoulders when we are reclining and such.
Sorry for the novel lol. I tend to overwrite to explain I guess.
Any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
