Some people just shouldn't be allowed to own animals!!

Whatever you do, don't commit another crime in the process of trying to report her crime. Don't sneak down there when she is not there to take pics. That is trespassing. Take pics when you are actually there with her permission if you can.

That's terrible. I was a not so good pet owner in the past sometimes, I admit. I guess that I was young and not fully responsible. I own rabbits, chinchillas, and two chicks now. And, may I say that I am one responsible pet owner? I have been doing a great job taking care of them since about two years ago. (The chicks are recent addition). I think that my animals are making me stronger, more responsible and caring. They cost money and time that I could spend on myself. But, I take it as their giving me life lessons. How's that?

Where I live, the humane society is also run with animal control. So you get a 2fer. If you report her for neglect and abuse of animals they are obligated to follow up. As much as it kills you to not help out, don't tip anyone off that you did it. Nothing irritates me more than people letting the people they reported know so they'd be scared into fixing it. They aren't going to fix it permanently, just temporarily.

I have 2 cats, a dog, and 2 chickens with 4 more chicks on the way. My house and yard are well kept and my animals are all happy and healthy. It's not a hard thing to do when you treat your animals as family and your pets rather than possessions.

Omg that happened to me and I was furious, I had reported someone with 20 dogs and they were kept in deplorable conditions, And I hadnt told Anyone I reported him.....well what do you know, he got tipped off by the dog warden in his town that they were coming (well we think thats who anyway)...so when they got there all was in order, however they did not go in the house cause he wasnt there, which he keeps a dozen or so in small kennels in house....So sometimes you try and do the right thing and it bites you in the @, the humane society had to drive at least an hour away to go there and he obs knew they were coming, sucks and they said they would do a followup visit and never did.......But you still need to report this woman, she should NOT be allowed to own pets and I hope she gets punished in some form, these poor animals in this world that live miserable lives and depend on US to help them, just DO IT

And I hate to say it, but if you dont report her you are as guilty as her....I think its great that you go there and take care of them, but what about the other 23 1/2 hrs a day that they have to live there and in those conditions? I reported someone cause I felt so guilty knowing those dogs needed help and I couldnt Not do anything....so please call her in and nobody has to know you did it and let those animals have a chance at getting a life where they will have it good 24/7, you dont even need pics, just explain to them what is going on and they will make a surprise visit and see for themselves

Its our 'job' as good citizens to report a suspicion. We dont have to investigate, only to report.

If you are wrong (yea. right.) then she and AC have a good laugh over your error.
If you are right, you may have saved the life of an animal and possibly protected a child from being in harms way.

Its an easy choice.

I completely know what you are talking about. I have some neighbors like that. They have dogs that they breed, chickens living in gross enviroment, 2 skinny horses and a goat that tied up on maybe a 4ft rope. Its awful. They has a second goat a while back that got killed by a stray dog and left it laying in the back yard for 2 months before burning it and buring it. I have called and reported them several times and most of the time they never even come out. I am always going over there and feeding the animals and always asking them if they want to get rid of them.

BigDaddy'sGurl :

Okay, I know you mean well, but you are enabling her. Call animal control and report her. If that doesn't work call the humane society. If that doesn't work, call the police. You obviously know when she's home or not, so when she's not, go over and take pics BEFORE you care for them yourself. You are doing these animals a disservice by swooping in and caring for them but making no long-term solutions. What would happen if something happened to you and you couldn't go over daily? They are not your pets, and she doesn't seem to care how many die: she just replaces them. So until you're willing to call the authorities, be prepared to take care of whatever animals she drags in.

ETA: I'm not trying to be mean, but animal cruelty and neglect should never be allowed to continue. Family or not, friend or not, the animals shouldn't be suffering.

I agree it's cruel and she should never be allowed to own animals but in some rural areas like where i live we don't have animal control and i've tried several times to report a neighbor when i lived in town who kept her two female dogs tied up and never got them fixed and when they came in heat all the stray males around and mated with them and the dogs were tied and couldn't get away and they left for vacation once and it snowed and left their female tied to the porch with 5-8 puppies and she had gotten tangled up around a shrub and couldn't get back to pups and we couldn't get close to her because she was agressive to strangers and this poor thing had no hair and you could see every rib and a neighbor and i feed this dog and we both called but no one would come out until i finally called the state police and they came and got her and the pups and 2 days later the dog and pups were back and they didn't do anything to them because they said that she was an acceptable weight and her pups were heathly and we said yes they are because we feed them and that she didn't have mange but a bad skin allergy and i asked if there was anything we could do and they said that if we hadn't feed her then maybe they could have done something. i can't even count the number o f complaints this neighbor had concerning her dogs they finally got "rid" of all the backyard dogs when i think one of them attacked one of their cats or house dogs because one morning there were 4 dogs and that afternoon there were none and don't even get me started on the smell

You're probably right about not sneaking down when she's not home, but this owner lets this OP come down ANYTIME to take care of her animals, so I doubt it would be able to be prosecuted as "trespassing". Also, where I live, the law is that it's only considered actual trespassing when you have notified the offender in writing or verbally that they are not welcome to come over. Hence religious groups coming to your door but not "trespassing". Where I live it is only trespassing after you've been asked to leave and not return and yet you do so anyway.

It kind of sounds like she is mentally ill. I don't think a sane person would do that. Even a really lazy one. Poor animals..

That was my thought. When there is a question of poor judgment, such as leaving a dead carcass out to rot, then it is more than just being lazy. She could have some cognitive (brain--thinking) problems that only a doctor would be able to diagnose and treat. If she is older, she could have dementia. You would be doing her a favor by reporting her to someone. It would get the ball rolling. Those animals have feelings and do feel pain.
