I've considered the water bottle method but since i raise most of my quail outside, it's not too realistic for me to put water bottles out and keep worring about thawing them daily in the winter. BUT i might get them water bottles for the summer just to have easier waterings. My buttons don't even take water baths in their water. I have a large dog bowl in my outdoor pen and my buttons just drink at the side and go about their business. Now my coturnix, they happily walk in the water

I use the pop bottle waterers. They work ok but if you don't hang them/set them just right, they leak. Still better than cleaning out a waterer full of poo.

I wind up throwing the entire waterers in the dishwasher about twice a week because they get so foul
