Your little packing peanut looks like an Ideal production red. I have 2 of those packing peanuts and I just bred both to some silver factor hens to see what I can get (sex-links I hope). I have 21 eggs in the bator at this time. Mine are really nice roos with reasonably calm temperments. I hope you enjoy yours.

Even though this breed is predisposed to be good around livestock you still have to teach them how you want them to act around them.
Before I introduce any dog to livestock off leash they have to have first a strong foundation of obedience on and off leash and preferably be brought up with what they should protect. The dog absolutely has to respect you as a leader!
I put in a lot of work everyday to get Brutus to where he is now. Brutus started out only being able to see the chickens if he remained in a down position submissive to the chickens, then we worked from there.
Some dogs can never be trusted around chicken if they have had successful attacks in the past, it is then a very self rewarding behavior for them.

Mine are hatchery stock RIR's from Frey's Hatchery.
All in all he is a calm bird so far and I really enjoy having him.
My original plans did not include a rooster but I made room for one more.
Thanks for sharing! I love to see animals getting along. You have done a wonderful job getting your dog to behave. I was wondering what is a packing peanut?
