I also keep an extra pen for my excess roosters, and fatten them up. if someone comes by and wants one, sure, if not, freezer camp. It's fresh, pure and I know where it's been.

Wow, I really appreciate how much work that is: opening and closing doors, watering and feeding all those pens every day. You are really a hard worker! I also have a lot of coops to open and close.

Your birds are gorgeous and very well-cared for. Thank you for posting your pics! I really enjoyed them. Your Icelandics are beautiful.

Yes, it is always a good idea to have backup roosters.

Thanks to all of you! Yes, it does take quite a while to do chores each day. I really enjoy it, actually. I don't like chores in the freezing weather though.

No, I do not show any of my birds. I have never done that. Maybe some day, but not sure on that. Seems like it would be alot of work to bathe and prepare the birds for shows. I don't know if I am up to that. Well, that, and ..... I don't know that I really have show birds. They are nice, and I like them, but I bought most of them. I can take no credit for their breeding, so I don't know that it would be ethical of me to show them. For now, I just really enjoy them.

Kathyinmo, you have such a great set up and obviously take great care of your birds and their homes. Can you tell me what a "black split" is?

Quote:
Thank you.

Black-split-to-lavender. Meaning that they appear black, but carry a lavender gene, as well. The parents are a male lavender and female black or black-split. Offspring receive one gene from each parent. The Lavenders have 2 Lav genes, the splits have 1 Lav gene and 1 black gene.
