I have 7 pullets/hens that are all 16 weeks old. I have 2 brown leghorns
1 white leghorn
1 black sex link
1 golden laced Wyandotte (supposed to be a black sex link but TSC messed up)
And 2 New Hampshire reds

Im about 90% sure one of my brown leghorns (first picture) laid her first egg today. 🥳🥳🥳 I’ve been noticing her comb and waddles growing and getting red. Then this morning I found a broken egg that didn’t have a shell, just a membrane in the nesting box. I have heard that this is normal when pullets start laying eggs. When should her eggs be normal? I am very excited. Because she laid her first egg I switched the feed to layer pellets instead of chick starter. The other 6 haven’t started laying yet. Is this ok???
Also, do you think any of the other 6 will be laying soon?

Thank you for your help! Definitely very exciting. It was amazing how fast the brown leghorns comb and wattles grew. I swear one day her comb and waddles were small and pale and a couple days later they were larger and red.

It does happen almost overnight. I just had three eggs in 2 days from my roughly 18 week old girls. So I have three laying but only know who one is for sure because I happened to be in the run when she did it. Still waiting on one more. Was hoping to have one more egg today....but no such luck! :barnie

Each pullet is different so for what it’s worth, I recently culled two GLW pullets at 17 wks (the terror twins but that’s another story) both had small yoke clusters and neither had very red combs.
