some things that I have noticed

most of my girls always lay in the same nest , ie/ say chicken #1 will most always lay in box #4 and 2 in 3 ect .. has anyone else noticed this with their flock ,,
Also learned that with a big chicken house , I can't put the nest boxes in the building with the roost as they will roost in the nests .

I started out with 9 layers, now down to 8 due to an illness last summer. I put 4 nest boxes in the coop, the girls will only use the same two boxes all the time. I will have 6 or 7 eggs in the same box, while the other box they like is empty. Go figure!

PS, I have seen two hens squeeze into one nest box at the same time. I have given up trying to figure the girls out.

Yes, this happens all the time. The favorite egg nest. Must be the best if "she's" using it! I have seen 2 hens squeeze in the same box and have heard the hens screaming for one hen to get out so they can move in. I put fake eggs in the other boxes so they think it's a special box and use it in emergency. They do. Yes, they will roost on the nests and poop I hate that. There are some designs that work that the roost is far enouph off of the nest so the poop hits the floor.
