someone gave me a full blood border collie puppy!

I can't help you on the name - but I would encourage you to get him into puppy class ASAP. They are extremely smart dogs but untrained they are a HUGE nightmare! Give him lots of chew toy and keep him FAR away from your chickens until you're sure you can trust him!

the lady who had him said that he had to stay in a crate all day while she was at work and she was tired of him..poor guy! he seems to like the chickens and the goats..hes a bit timid right now. what kind of class?

As far as I know Collies and that type tend to be more of a herding dog, instead of a guard dog..

An obedience class. If you have a Petsmart near you you can take him there. You also might find one at the local Humane Society.

They are very smart dogs, and with a little time and patience, he'll be the best dog you ever had. They are awesome at agility competitions.

You might also want to see if there's a border collie club nearby or a breeder who would be willing to give you advice.

At least she was nice enough to give him to a loving home. Some people just dump them at the pound. Congrats on getting him - you're lucky!
