Uhmm! Looks like Mites to me, because of apparently the scabby looking detritus. However, how many hens and do you run a rooster with her? A young active rooster can tear up a hen pulling out feathers when attempting to mate, usually from her neck and back. If that is the case more hens can help the affected girl by spreading the misery. A good miticide product would be good for a mite problem getting started. It often starts with just one bird being obviously affected.

Hello, hens change the feathers every year, make sure you give her enough calcium

Sometimes I get a hen that will go through a neck molt in early spring here. It's a bit early, but the weather has been messed up this year so it wouldn't surprise me. I still have some that just started their fall molts recently.

I might dust for mites just in case. Neck molts are just what they sound like. They only molt around the head and neck. Not sure why, but I see it enough that it doesn't concern me.

i have 5 hens, no rooster! I did not see any mites and we noticed about one week ago. Tomorrow, we’ll re-access. I have a mite problem late summer but we addressed it immediately before it affected more than just one bird. The mites never came back and it was a different hen. All seem very healthy and active, plus she’s laying tons.
