congrats.. Oh and for the comment about a cross... it isn't... A cross wouldn't produce a dark egg layer... You have a Bona-fide genuine... tried and true.. Marans hen....

Neat! I love dark eggs. I've had Marans before but sold them b/c they eggs weren't very dark at all. I have a RIR hen now who lays a pretty dark (and huge!) egg.
