Someone is stealing my photos!!! CALLING FBCM breeders take a look!!!

I saw some pics on Craigslist the other day and thought I had saw them posted by multiple BYC users, was not like it was one BYC member posting pics but someone stealing several pics and using for their add. I almost posted it but being new I could not find the proper owners of the pics I saw. Glad you found out. Some people

I think that this is a sticky legal issue with the Internet. As the party is using them for commercial interests, you may be able to get a cease and desist order. If they claim that the photos are theirs', you may have a copyright complaint. But many thing that get posted on the internet are considered public domain because we've chosen to put them there. The idea of intellectual copyrights and the 'net is a fuzzy issue.

Good luck getting this resolved. One possibility is to contact the Better Business Bureau in the town the photography studio is in and file a complaint about it with them.

yes you are most likely right, I realize that my pics with out a water stamp probably fall in some grey category in the law. But read what they say, they make it sound like those are the actual eggs and those are the parents I know they aren't cause I have seen that pic of that flock before and I know it is someone either on eggbid or here on BYC. Some who steal say this is what the breed looks like but these people took it a step farther and make it sound like those are all theirs.

People do that with my horses all the time. I see them in magazines with the wrong names and names of people who are supposed to own them.
I walked into a tack store and saw a picture of my mare blown up into poster size for sale $150
I mentioned the picture to staff and they told me it was a of "such and such"horse. I said no it isn't it is my mare and gave them the correct name.
Geesch some opportunists!

well I got a responce and here it is :

I do not breed marans. I purchased these from a breeder, and only
wanted a few. In order to get them shipped to my house , I had to
order more then I wanted. I was trying to re-coop my funds my selling
the extra birds. I don't have any pictures of eggs, so I found some
that we well presented online, for my small hometown ad that I placed
on craigslist. The adult birds are from the breeder, but the eggs are
not. I really think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill,
honestly. But I have changed my ad a bit to make you feel better. I
will delete the ad when the chick are sold. You need to copyright your
pictures if this bothers you so, that way you are not spending your
weekends call people. Thanks and have a great day.

unbelievable!!!!

I wonder if those pics are really from the breeder. I responded of course. I really dont care what the excuse is but I will be watermarking all pics from now on. I cant imagine copywriting them as there are so many and I change them as the birds grow and etc...

eta she changed one of the ads but the other she didnt. She isnt even using a pic of the actual chicks and she is a photographer!

If you end up pursuing it legally and need precedents check with boat designers they have successfully stopped violation of their intellectual copyrights connected with the internet constantly flag their adds on craigslist sounds like an incompetent lot of picture takers can,t even get a picture of a bird without resorting to thievery. I sold wildlife pictures for a time constantly had the same problem . good luck

I'd send them a bill with a self addressed envelope....they probably won't pay it, but it may make them think twice about it the next time.
