Someone please explain what a SPLIT is

Ussually refers to a bird carrying a recessive gene, meaning the gene does not show itself with only one copy. But when that bird is bred to another bird that also carries that same recessive gene, will produce young that outwardly display that gene. Such as recessive white that requires a copy from each parent to produce white young.

It means heterozygous, genetically. Usually it means that it is carrying a recessive gene, like lavender or mottled.

I have a Buff OP roo that crossed a SLW, Australop,Barred rock. I got a white chick with a very little barring or lacing(cant tell yet only 21days old) is that a split recessive gene showing itself?
