I'm glad I was able to help! How is she this morning? Size of crop, appetite, weight, etc?

-Kathy

Doing well. I gave her fluids around 6:30 and then when I was leaving to go to work around 7ish her crop was already smaller from the fluids. Her poops are still about the same as last night....but they have increases in size a little. She actually was eating her food all by herself, so that's an improvement. Yesterday she would eat her favorite treats but turned her beak up to her food. So that's good! Until she recuperates a little bit more I am still going to feed/hydrate her through the tube. I have a call into UC davis to see if I should bring her in just in case. :fl hopefully she still continues to improve.

I am going to weigh her when I get home from work today around 2. I weighed her last night and she was still 3.6lbs so she hadn't lost anymore weight.

Whoa....I just got off the phone with UD Davis. They do see chickens and they are all booked up for another 2 weeks! If I was to bring her in now it would be $200.00 minimum!! I was like wow....I will just have to wait and see if she improves. Wow, my mouth dropped.

Good Lord, that's outrageous! Should be an office visit at $45-$65, gram stain at $25-$35 and any medications. Maybe you could find another vet?

I know!! There is one in Sacramento that takes chickens. That's UC Davis for you!!! Luckily she is eating by herself now. I just got home from work and my husband said she is eating all by herself. I probably will still supplement water so I know there's watering there to keep her going. Her poops are still the same type but just growing a little larger in amount. Some are formed some are not. So I'm just going to have yo watch her.

Well I am going to go to sacramento tomorrow just to have her be seen to make sure there's nothing still stuck. $65 for an office visit...way better than $200!! The tech said her poops are a sign of malnutrition which makes sense. Now they are turning brown, which makes me happy. So I will keep everyone updated as to what the vet says.

Good luck today! FWIW, my best spent money at the vet has been in gram stains. My vet will take a sample from the mouth, put it on on side of the slide and a poop sample on the other (this way I only get charged for one stain). They disappear with the slide for about 15 minutes and come back saying whether or not they found bacteria and/or yeast. If they find yeast, they prescribe an antifungal like fluconazole or ketoconazole. If they find bacteria, and the usually find gram negative bacteria with mine, so they prescribe Baytril. Not sure what they would prescribe if they found gram positive bacteria.

While you're there, talk to them about worming her and specifically about capillary worms.

Good point. I will bring up the worming to them and see what they say. Thank you for the whole advice on the one side poo one side mouth, I will see what they say. This morning her crop was the size of a raspberry!!!
