Someone Turned Us Into Animal Control

Our neighbors knew that we got chickens because my daughter would play with them in the front yard while I cleaned out the brooder and our big chicken coop delivery was fiasco and sat on our driveway while our fence was removed to get it in. Everyone seemed great and stopped during evening walks and told their personal chicken stories from childhood.

I live in Los Angeles and our yards are small and was worried someone would be a ninny. I told my next door neighbor and reassured him that we weren't getting a rooster and he said, "if you don't, I will," and he got 3 hens and a rooster. Unfortunately, it crowed night and day and I feared that all the other neighbors would think it was us. But after 3 days he returned it without anyone having to say anything. It turns out he used to be chicken farmer and he has 3 large coops in his backyard of different types of birds.

It's nice when things work out. If some of our chicks turn out to be roosters, quiet ones, I'll give him one.
